Get the local perspective on Berkeley.
You want to see it all! Take a guided tour, or show yourself around! For tours of labs and museums see the General Program.

Cable Car Tours

Central Campus
8-4
See the campus in local style! On-board student guides point out highlights and answer questions. Hop on or off at any stop. Check the campus map for routes and stops.

Walking Tours

Central Campus
10-3 | Tour Tent, Dwinelle Plaza
Trained student guides take you on a one-hour tour. Learn about Berkeley’s traditions, student life, history, and architecture. Tours begin every half hour starting at 10 am. Meet at the yellow Tour Tent on Dwinelle Plaza (near the Information Center).

Mandarin Tour
Noon | Tour Tent, Dwinelle Plaza
A one-hour Mandarin language tour will be offered by a student guide. Meet at the yellow Tour Tent on Dwinelle Plaza (near the Information Center) at noon.

Recorrido en Español
11-12 | Plaza Dwinelle

Recreational Sports Facility

Housing Tours

Residence Halls
10-4
Tours of the Residence Halls depart every 30 minutes from the locations below. Tours include a residence hall orientation and a guided walk-through of student rooms, unit dining areas, and Academic Service Centers. The last tour leaves at 3:30 pm.

Unit 1 (co-ed high-rises):
Meet in the All-Purpose Room of the complex (which is located on the lower level of the Central Building).

Unit 2 (co-ed high-rises):
Meet in the All-Purpose Room of the complex (which is located on the lower level of the Central Building).

Unit 3 (co-ed high-rises):
Meet on the Unit 3 volleyball court or, in case of rain, in the All-Purpose Room of the complex (which is located on the lower level of the Central Building).

Unit 4 (co-ed and single gender housing):
Please note: For all Unit 4 tours, there are stairs/hills to climb. For anyone with mobility needs, there is a Cal Day shuttle that will provide transportation to these areas.

Bowles Hall at Unit 4 (single-gender residence hall for men):
Meet in the Bowles main lounge.

Stern Hall at Unit 4 (single-gender residence hall for women):
Meet in the Foothill Assembly Room.

Foothill, La Loma & Hillside at Unit 4 (co-ed and single-gender suites):
Meet in the Foothill Assembly Room.

Unit 5 Clark Kerr Campus (single-gender suites and co-ed halls):
Meet at Clark Kerr Campus, Building 1. Please note: There are stairs/hills to climb. For with mobility needs, there is a Cal Day shuttle that will provide transportation to these areas.

Theme Housing
10-4 | Information Marketplace, #65
There are a total of seven themed-living programs available to Berkeley students. Three are open for tours during times listed:

  • The African American Theme Program (11 am & 2 pm)
  • The Casa Magdalena Mora Theme Program (11 am & 2 pm)
  • The Women in Science and Engineering Theme House (10 am - 2 pm)

Panhellenic Sorority Chapter Houses
11-3:30 | Kroeber Hall Plaza
Meet at the Kroeber Plaza Information Tent to take a walking tour of the Panhellenic sorority chapter houses. Tours leave every half hour beginning at 11 am.

Student Co-ops
10-3 | Selected co-ops—student-run living groups—will be open for one-hour tours, leaving on the hour. Tours leave from the Berkeley Student Cooperative table in the Information Marketplace.

College & Special Area Tours

See the General Program for tours of departments, labs, and museums—many not usually open to the public. Prospective students might check these college tours:

Haas School of Business
9-1 | Haas School of Business, Bank of America Forum
Take a self-guided tour of facilities, including the computer center.

Engineering Tour on Northside
11, 11:20, 11:40, Noon, 12:20, 12:40 | McLaughlin Hall plaza
Join student guides on a tour of the northeast quadrant of campus, home to the College of Engineering.

College of Environmental Design
9-3 | Wurster Hall, lobby
Peer advisers and student leaders answer questions about the undergraduate programs in architecture, landscape architecture, and urban studies. See student work and take a tour of the CED building and design studios. Tours leave through the day.

College of Natural Resources
1-2 | Information Marketplace
Tour the college in its historic buildings on the beautiful northwest side of campus. Meet at the CNR table in the Information Marketplace.

Libraries

Self-Guided Library Tours
10-3 | Doe and Moffitt Libraries, Gardner Stacks
Self-guided tours through the libraries, which hold 52 miles of shelves, start at Doe Library, north entrance information desk, or Moffitt Library, south entrance.

Environmental Design Library Tours
1, 2 & 3 | 210 Wurster Hall
See the collections and resources of CED's world-class library. Library staff are on hand to answer your questions. Fifteen-minute, librarian-led tours are at 1, 2, and 3 pm.

Hargrove Music Library Tours
1 & 2 | Hargrove Music Library, east entrance
A 45-minute guided tour features the architectural highlights of Berkeley's music library, plus some of the rare books and manuscripts in its collection.

C.V. Starr East Asian Library and Chang-Lin Tien Center for East Asian Studies Tour
2-3 | C.V. Starr East Asian Library
The library, which opened in 2008, houses more than 900,000 volumes of Chinese, Korean and Japanese materials. Be sure to check out the special exhibit Oops! Errors, Edits and Comments before the Age of Document Software.

The Campanile

Sather Tower
9-3:30 | Free on Cal Day!
Take the elevator to the top of Berkeley’s landmark bell tower for the breathtaking panoramic view.
NOTE: There are 38 stairs from the elevator landing to the observation deck; the deck is not wheelchair accessible.
