The strength of the geomagnetic field has been declining since the first direct measurements were made in the 1830s. The rate of decline exceeds the expected rate of decay due to magnetic diffusion, prompting speculations that Earth may be entering the early stage of a geomagnetic reversal. We examine the evidence for an imminent geomagnetic reversal.
