This series of four half-hour talks explores how women have asserted and defended their right to self-fulfillment in poetry, religious writings and public speech across time: "Celebrating Female Poets of Al-Andalus: 'I'm a lioness, yet I refuse to be forever someone else's lair'" (10-10:30 a.m.); "Villainess, Anti-Heroine, Allegory of the Soul: Potiphar's Wife in Islamic and Rabbinic Writings" (10:30-11 a.m.); "From Past to Present: Pioneering Women in Egyptology" (11-11:30 a.m.); and "Arab Women in the Era of Free Speech" (11:30 a.m.-noon).
