The U.S. elections both produced a surprising result and revealed a deep set of fault lines in America. Some of these lines--red states versus blue states, liberals versus conservatives--are widely discussed in the media. But many others are not. A sociological imagination can help us understand today's fault lines and therefore the elections of 2016.
